2022 Menzies Community Australia Day Awards

The Veneto Club was the recipient of the 2022 Community Organisation Award and Australian Flag Presentation. This award is for ‘Recognising the valued contribution in Menzies and the ongoing loyal commitment to the Commonwealth of Australia’. The 2022 Menzies Community Australia Day Awards were held at the Manningham City Council Function Centre on Wednesday 26th of January.
Committee members, Dino De Bortoli, Orlando Bernardi and Eugene Brazzale represented the Veneto Club. They have been presented a certificate and an Australian National Flag which was previously raised only once in the House of Representatives Chamber on the 3rd August 2021.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS VENETO CLUB MELBOURNE 2020-2021

After a considerable delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the Veneto Club Melbourne was able to hold its annual AGM on Monday 08 February 2021, and the current board of Directors were all returned for the remainder of the current membership year.

The President Louis Crema, a second generation descendant from Treviso, was returned as President unopposed and as were all the existing board members. Lou together with the board members each bring their own professionalism, initiatives, experiences and passions to maintain our culture and also setting the future direction for the Veneto Club

At the AGM members were provided with an update of the Clubs business and review of the impact the COVID restrictions has had on operations and future plans.

 President Lou Crema, Secretary Sonya Velo Treasurer Dino De Bortoli updated members about business operations as well as all the projects and initiatives that were implemented to allow the Club to stay open for the benefit of its members and supporters.

 Lou also extended his thanks to two board members who had resigned over the last year and extended his sincere thanks for their contributions.

 Lou also took the opportunity to thank the numerous volunteers who often contribute, in the background to the continued success of the Club.

 And last of all Lou acknowledged Joe Morello, General Manager and to all the Club staff for their work, understanding and support during what has been an extraordinary and difficult twelve months.

Con qualche mese di ritardo dovuto alla situazione pandemica del COVID-19, che ha colpito anche la nostra realtà comunitaria del Victoria in Australia, il Veneto Club Melbourne ha rinnovato nella serata del Lunedì 08 Febbraio 2021 il proprio consiglio direttivo che guiderà il sodalizio fino alla chiusura del corrente anno associativo. 

 Numerosi sono stati i soci presenti in una sala Venezia appositamente preparata e sistemata secondo le restrizioni previste per adempiere ai regolamenti anti COVID con i quali, tutt'ora, dobbiamo convivere.

 Al timone resiste saldamente l'appassionato Louis Crema, discendente di seconda generazione trevisana, un uomo che con instancabile determinazione si presta incessantemente a favore del Club e non solo; al suo fianco rimangono invariati gli altri componenti del Comitato del Club, ognuno con le proprie professionalità, iniziative, esperienze e peculiarità, che hanno saputo portare quella marcia in più così tipica e caratterizzante del nostro essere Veneti nel Mondo. 

 L'Assemblea è stata l'occasione ufficiale per fornire ai presenti una panoramica dettagliata e esplicativa della situazione commerciale-associativa a trecentosessanta gradi del sodalizio sia pre COVID che corrente: il Presidente Crema, la Segretaria Velo e il Tesoriere De Bortoli hanno opportunamente aggiornato i presenti rispetto a tutte quelle criticità di sistema e a quelle iniziative affrontate e messe in campo che hanno permesso al Veneto Club di superare il periodo di emergenza e di riproporsi tempestivamente in maniera adeguata a beneficio dei propri soci e simpatizzanti. 

 Negli interventi che si sono susseguiti, i vari Dirigenti hanno esteso sinceri ringraziamenti ai componenti del Comitato precedente che si sono ritirati così come a tutti i numerosissimi volontari che in maniera spesso silente contribuiscono, nell'ombra, al successo e al funzionamento di una struttura a carattere regionale unica al mondo come la nostra. 

 Infine, franchi e autentici riconoscimenti, sono anche stati estesi a Joe Morello, Direttore Generale e a tutto lo staff del Club i quali hanno saputo, efficacemente, supportare la struttura nei momenti più difficili dimostrando ancora una volta, se mai ve ne fosse bisogno, senso di appartenenza e di responsabilità.

Alpini Monument

On Monday 07 December 2020 the Veneto Club Melbourne officially welcomed the monument of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini del Victoria e Tasmania with a delegation of their committee which included the:

- President of the state branch Aldo Zanatta (originally from Cusignana, a suburb of Giavera del Montello - TV) ,  

- Lorenzo Bianchin (originally from Camalò, a suburb of Povegliano - TV),

- Riccardo Meneguzzi (originally from Morsano al Tagliamento - PN),

- Beniamino Zanatta (originally from Musano, a suburb of Trevignano - TV ) and Antonio Lunardi (family originally from Foza - VI).

The Melbourne Alpini group is a historical community group established in the 1960-70s to celebrate and keep alive the spirit and the memories of those heroic fighters who gave their lives for their homeland Italy.

Anniversaries such as the:

- Celebration for the veterans of Russia which takes place in February,

- Liberation and  Anzac Day on April 25, as well as the

- Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces on November 04,

are all significant memorial days for Italian migrants in the context of Italian history and how these events shaped Italy to be the country it is today.

The 2.6 tonne monument was constructed in 1985 by an Italian sculptor of Trentino origin, Mr. Magnavacca, It was also blessed by the then bishop Sir Frank Little. The monument symbolises the values and virtues of the Alpino, always ready and proud to serve his country, with a dedication to "ALLE PENNE MOZZE, OVUNQUE SEPOLTE E AI SOLDATI DI TUTTE LE GUERRE PERCHE' RIPOSANO CON CANTORE".

The request from the Alpini Group to relocate the monument to the Veneto Club was overwhelmingly welcomed by the Board of the Veneto Club, and in particular the President Mr Louis Crema who  supported the initiative by facilitating the delicate process of relocating the monument.

The history of Italian and Venetian migration including those from the Melbourne Alpini group also have had strong connections with the Veneto Club since its foundation. Members such as:

- Beppi Crema (originally from Giavera del Montello - TV) – father of Louis Crema

- Lino Freschi (originally from Bavaria, suburb of Nervesa della Battaglia - TV) – father of Frank Freschi

- Tommaso Agnoletti (originally from Giavera del Montello - TV) father of John & Walter Angoletti, and

- Lino Baldazzo (originally from Bavaria, suburb of Nervesa della Battaglia - TV)

 These gentlemen were both members of the Alpini group and prominent members of the Veneto Club.

In their 50 years of activities, the Alpini have established a dedicated museum located inside the premises of the AIA at La Trobe University in Bundoora. This exhibition space was the work of the Alipini Group, in collaboration with the late Prof. Genovesi and strongly supported  by Mr. Rino Grollo, a local Victorian businessman of Veneto origin.

The President of the Veneto Club Mr. Louis Crema, together with the Board and the Operational Team  extends his gratitude to the Alpini group for having chosen the Club to preserve this important monument masterpiece with the hope of being able to enhance its importance and to make its values known, particularly, to new generations as much as possible.

Lunedì 07 Dicembre 2020 il Veneto Club Melbourne ha ufficialmente accolto il monumento dell'Associazione Nazionale Alpini del Victoria e Tasmania alla presenza di una delegazione della sezione locale capitanata dal Presidente responsabile statale Aldo Zanatta (originario di Cusignana, frazione di Giavera del Montello - TV), dal Consigliere sezionale Lorenzo Bianchin (originario di Camalò, frazione di Povegliano - TV), oltre che dal Capogruppo di Melbourne Riccardo Meneguzzi (originario di Morsano al Tagliamento - PN), dal Vice Beniamino Zanatta (originario di Musano, frazione di Trevignano - TV) e dal Consigliere Antonio Lunardi (famiglia originaria di Foza - VI).

Gli Alpini di Melbourne, storica presenza comunitaria fondata tra la fine degli anni '60 e l'inizio degli anni '70, celebrano e mantengono vivo lo spirito e il ricordo di quegli eroici combattenti che per la patria hanno donato la propria esistenza: ricorrenze quali la "Celebrazione per i reduci di Russia" che si svolge a Febbraio, la "Liberazione" e "L'Anzac day" del 25 Aprile, piuttosto che la Giornata dell'Unità Nazionale e delle Forze Armate del 04 Novembre, acquistano un significato ancora più profondo nel contesto dell'emigrazione Italiana all'estero e delle sue peculiari specificità.

Il monumento da 2.6 tonnellate, eretto nel 1985 dallo scultore di origine trentina, Magnavacca e benedetto dall'allora vescovo Sir Frank Little, raffigura in modo straordinario l'Alpino mai domo, sempre pronto e fiero al servizio del suo paese facendoci altresì riflettere, profondamente, sui valori e sulle virtu' caratterizzanti dell'arma ed è dedicato "ALLE PENNE MOZZE, OVUNQUE SEPOLTE E AI SOLDATI DI TUTTE LE GUERRE PERCHE' RIPOSANO CON CANTORE".

Fondamentali, per la ricollocazione del monumento, sono state le sinergie messe in campo tra gli Alpini e il Cda del Veneto Club: le volontà espresse dai primi hanno trovato piena sintonia nei secondi soprattutto grazie alla totale disponibilità del suo Presidente Louis Crema il quale ha fortemente assecondato l'iniziativa concretizzandola sia dal punto di vista operativo che logistico.

La storia della migrazione Italiana e Veneta, in particolare, ma non solo, che lega il gruppo degli Alpini di Melbourne al Veneto Club ha radici profonde; sin dalla fondazione numerosissimi sono stati gli esponenti comunitari che hanno contribuito ad entrambi i sodalizi tra i quali, nel contesto dell'attività svoltasi il 07 Dicembre, sono stati ricordati il compianto Beppi Crema (originario di Giavera del Montello - TV) e papà di Louis Crema, il compianto Lino Freschi (originario di Bavaria, frazione di Nervesa della Battaglia - TV) e papà di Frank Freschi, quest'ultimo anch'esso presente alla cerimonia, il compianto Tommaso Agnoletti  (originario di Giavera del Montello - TV) e papà di Walter e John Agnoletti, questi ultimi anch'essi presenti alla cerimonia, Lino Baldazzo (originario di Bavaria, frazione di Nervesa della Battaglia - TV).

Nei loro 50 anni di attività locale, gli Alpini di Melbourne si sono particolarmente distinti, in ambito comunitario, soprattutto per la loro profonda sensibilità storica particolarmente evidente visitando il museo dedicato, sito all'interno dei locali dell'AIA presso l'Università La Trobe di Bundoora (Melbourne - Australia): spazio espositivo inaugurato nel 2005 in collaborazione con il compianto Prof. Genovesi e fortemente voluto e sostenuto soprattutto dall'imprenditore edile di origine veneta Rino Grollo.

Il Presidente Louis Crema assieme al suo Comitato e ai Responsabili operativi del Veneto Club, desiderano ringraziare a nome dei propri soci, amici e simpatizzanti, la sezione degli Alpini di Melbourne per aver scelto di far custodire alla nostra realtà associativa regionale questo loro cimelio così significativo con l'auspicio di poter valorizzare la sua importanza e far conoscere i sui valori fondanti, particolarmente alle nuove generazioni, sempre e ancor di più.

Major sporting upgrades

Works are starting this month to upgrade Veneto Club sporting facilities, as part of a $68 million investment in local sporting facilities being delivered as part of the North East Link Project (NELP).

We’ve been working closely with NELP since 2018 to develop a masterplan for the site to accommodate more capacity for FC Bulleen Lions.

Upgrades include a new synthetic soccer pitch, new pitch lighting, behind goal and boundary fencing and an expansion/upgrade of the change rooms. These upgrades will provide FC Bulleen Lions with additional capacity for training and games.

FC Bulleen Lions will also be able to train and play games at the proposed Templestowe Road Soccer Facilities once built.

Construction is set to begin this month and will be completed in early 2021 before North East Link works begin at Bulleen Park.

Yarra East Main Sewer works

Works to move a section of the Yarra East Main Sewer (YEMS) will also take place in 2021 to make way for North East Link. The sewer currently runs under Bulleen Road and will be moved to the east to connect back into the existing sewer at the Eastern Freeway.

To connect the club to the new section of sewer, some of these works will occur within the Veneto Club car park. It is expected that works will start in early 2021 and take a few months to complete.

Some carparks will be occupied during this time while the works are completed.

CORONAVIRUS: CALL CAMPAIGN TO MEMBERS

In late August the Veneto Club began a call campaign with their 150+ foundation members. The calls were made to check up on how the members were coping with the restrictions and encouraging them to stay connected with family & friends. The campaign was received with such enthusiasm that it was extended to all members, resulting in more than 1000 calls being made in the past few weeks.

The call team comprised a mix of Veneto Club staff. Julie Magaton, Renata Rostolis, Marina Mandoulidis, Zoe Brunori, Francesca Macchion and VC Board members Paola Girardi, Fabio Sandonà and Sonya Velo who were all keen to participate in this campaign.

One strong message to members was the importance of looking after their health and wellbeing. Our callers recommended simple things they could do such as staying in contact with family & friends, getting some fresh air, gentle exercise and always wearing a mask when outdoors.

Many mentioned their feelings of loneliness and disappointment of not being able to visit the Club, as for many it’s become their second home over the years.

"It was amazing for me," says Renata Rostolis. "I've had the chance to talk to people I've known since I was a child……with some members I stayed to chat for twenty minutes. It was nice to be able to talk to the elders a little bit, many were moved by the thought." As the daughter of a foundation member of the Veneto Club, Renata said she was "proud to have participated in this initiative".

“I would do it every day”, Zoe said without hesitation. “I was very pleased to hear the members appreciated this round of calls”. It was uplifting to experience the response from the members. Now that the Club is limited to retail sales and weekend take-away, the older members in particular are undeniably missing the regular social life the Veneto Club offers them.

Talking with the elderly was also an enriching experience for Francesca. "It was a great idea and among the members I spoke with, the older ones were the happiest with the phone call even though there is still no news on the reopening".

For some of them the chat was the “turning point of the day” and the opportunity for social contact and to exchange a few words was warmly welcomed. "One lady offered to teach me how to make tortellini, others told me stories of when they had just arrived," she adds.

Those that the Club were not able to contact via phone have been contacted by mail to ensure that they do not miss out.

Members and the local community are the reason the Veneto Club exists, they are the lifeblood of the Club and the mutual support is so important in these difficult times. It’s a situation not only the Veneto Club is facing but most Clubs across Victoria and Australia.

The VC decided to keep its doors open during the Covid restrictions, pivoting their focus to create the VC Deli. The deli is open daily, has an online shop for click and collect, a delivery service for orders as well as a limited takeaway food service on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The VC members and the wider community are encouraged to support the VC by making a purchase from the Deli, takeaway service, or members bottle shop. We all acknowledge that 2020 has been a difficult year and the support needed to help our Clubs and each other positively through the next few weeks is more important than ever and we look forward to a more prosperous 2021.

VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE FUNDRAISER

Venerdì  31 Gennaio 2020, al Veneto Club Melbourne, si e’ svolta una cena di beneficenza a favore della raccolta fondi per i territori interessati dagli incendi che hanno duramente colpito il nostro stato del Victoria. Le donazioni sono state devolute al “Victorian Bushfire Appeal”

Il Club desidera ringraziare fornitori e commercianti che hanno generosamente offerto prodotti e servizi per sostenere l’attività che, nel contesto di uno squisito banchetto di quattro portate, di un intrattenimento musicale di prim’ordine oltre che di una serie di aste con articoli esclusivi, e’ risultata essere particolarmente gradita e apprezzata dai partecipanti che l’hanno ampiamente supportata.

Il Veneto Club e’ lieto d'informare che all’evento hanno partecipato più di 300 persone. Tra le tante peculiarità della serata i centrotavola a tema “Natura Australiana” con tipiche piantine che verranno poi ripiantate aiutando quindi la ricostruzione del nostro ecosistema locale.

Il Veneto Club Melbourne e’ orgoglioso di comunicare che la somma totale raccolta e’ stata di $26,450 dollari australiani.

MEMORIE VENETE

On Sunday, October 27, the "Memorie Venete" website project was launched by the Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria (Australia) at the Veneto Club in Melbourne.

The "Memorie Venete" project was developed to preserve and enhance the Venetian culture and identity within the local community. The website is a collection of digitized magazines and photos spanning over 50 years illustrating activities and events of Veneto people in Victoria.

The website can be accessed at www.venetoclubmelbourne.com.au/fav and it consists of all Annual Magazines published by the Veneto Club Melbourne, almost all editions of the publication of L'Eco del Veneto as well as more than one thousand photographs from historical Associations part of the Federazione themselves.

The Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria (FAV. Vic.)  is the formal link with the Veneto Region in Italy and is one of thirteen official Venetian Federations recognized worldwide which include entities from other countries where people from Veneto migrated to, such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The following Associations are part of the Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria:  Comunità Montana dei Sette Comuni, Padovani Melbourne, Veronesi Melbourne, Vicentini Melbourne and Myrtleford, Trevisani Melbourne and Myrtleford, Veneto Club Melbourne. MEMORIE VENETE

Domenica 27 Ottobre si è svolta, nei locali del Veneto Club di Melbourne, l’attività di presentazione della progettualità “Memorie Venete” sviluppata dalla Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria (Australia).

Il progetto "Memorie Venete" nasce dall'esigenza di conservare e valorizzare la cultura e l’identità veneta presso la comunità locale rendendo consultabile elettronicamente il materiale disponibile costituito da testi e fotografie narranti la presenza, le attività, i traguardi e l’influenza dei nostri corregionali e dei suoi discendenti nello stato del Victoria.

È stato costruito un sito internet specifico raggiungibile all'indirizzo www.venetoclubmelbourne.com.au/fav all'interno del quale, in specifiche sezioni, si può consultare il materiale digitalizzato che consiste in tutte le edizioni della Relazione Annuale del Veneto Club Melbourne, quasi tutte le edizioni della pubblicazione de L’Eco del Veneto e più di mille fotografie delle Associazioni costituenti la Federazione stessa per fornire cosi’ un’ideale panoramica della collettività veneta del Victoria degli ultimi cinquant'anni nonché un’eccellente piattaforma di ricerca storico-comunitaria tanto per i simpatizzanti e gli associati veneti quanto particolarmente per le generazioni future.

La Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria, strumento normativo di raccordo con l’Istituzione della Regione del Veneto, è una delle tredici Federazioni Venete ufficiali riconosciute e attive nel mondo in quei paesi di maggiore presenza veneta: Argentina, Australia, Brasile, Canada, Sud Africa, Svizzera, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Con una numerosa presenza di soci, Domenica 30 Giugno si è svolta al Veneto Club l'Assemblea Generale 2019 che ha visto anche per quest'anno la riconferma al timone del sodalizio di Louis Crema, discendente di seconda generazione di Veneti nel mondo, un uomo che con passione e determinazione lavora incessantemente per il bene del Club e della Comunità Veneta che ne ruota attorno.

Durante la riunione gli interventi ufficiali in agenda, rispettivamente del Presidente stesso, dell'ex Segretario e del Tesoriere, hanno fornito una panoramica dettagliata ed esplicativa della situazione socio-economica del Club ponendo il giusto accento su alcune tematiche operativo-logistiche quali i lavori di rinnovamento della "sala venezia" e l'impatto del previsto "nord est link tunnel" con le quali il Veneto Club si dovrà confrontare nei prossimi mesi.

Sinceri e autentici sono stati anche i ringraziamenti estesi dai Dirigenti sia ai componenti del Comitato attuale che a quelli ritiratisi del precedente, cosi' come a tutti i volontari e al personale del club senza i quali la nostra realtà regionale non potrebbe avere il successo che quotidianamente riscontra nel panorama locale e non solo.

The Annual General Meeting 2019, held at the Veneto Club on Sunday 30 June, was well attended and saw the reconfirmation, at the helm of the Association, of Mr. Louis Crema, a second generation descendant of Veneti that, with passion and determination constantly works for the benefits of the Club and the wider Veneto Community that revolves around it.

During the agenda items, the President himself, then the former Secretary and then the Treasurer, provided a detailed and explanatory overview of the socio-economic situation of the Club while also placing the right emphasis on some operational and logistic matters to the like of the renovations of "sala venezia" and the impact of the expected "north east link tunnel" to which the Veneto Club will have to deal with in the next coming few months.

Sincere and authentic thanks were also extended, by those Executives, to the members of the current Committee and also to those from the previous one who retired, as well as to all the volunteers and the staff of the Club without whom our Regional reality could not be the success that it is.

Nuovamente anche quest’anno la Comunità Veneta di Melbourne ha festeggiato, presso il nostro Veneto Club, il Patrono della Regione e di Venezia, San Marco, in un 25 Aprile baciato dal sole e dalla splendida giornata autunnale contornata da un’atmosfera gioiosa e spumeggiante grazie alla numerosissima partecipazione di soci, amici e simpatizzanti del sodalizio che con questa attività rafforza la propria vocazione identitaria e culturale a trazione regionale.

La Santa Messa, celebrata in mattinata da Padre Vito Pegolo, ha permesso ai partecipanti di soffermarsi nella propria spiritualità per celebrare San Marco evangelista ma anche per commemorare le ricorrenze dell’Anzac Day Australiano e della Liberazione Italiana. Intensi e toccanti sono stati i momenti nei quali il Coro del Veneto Club ha accompagnato la celebrazione così come l’esecuzione di alcuni canti gregoriani da parte del tenore maestro Giuseppe Cacciapaglia.

San Marco al Veneto Club è anche e soprattutto un’occasione di ritrovo comunitario, una giornata aperta a tutti e all’insegna del "Veneto-Italian Style" da trascorrere assieme ai propri cari e alle proprie famiglie gustando prelibatezze gastronomiche tipiche e divertendosi in allegria e spensieratezza. Graditissima è stata la presenza di una nutrita comitiva di corregionali arrivata direttamente per l’occasione da Adelaide così come la partecipazione dei nostri Rappresentanti Australiani locali Hon. Kevin Andrews e Hon. Matthew Guy.

Anche in quest’edizione 2019 le specialità regionali non sono mancate: dalla polenta con coniglio o baccalà, agli gnocchi fatti in casa (serviti per l’occasione in appositi “piatti di pane” appena importanti dall’Italia), continuando con il cotechino e crauti, passando per le luganeghe, le castagne arrostiste, il vin brulè e per finire con i classici tiramisù, frittole e crostoli. 

Questa manifestazione rimane per la Comunità Veneta locale di Melbourne un ottimo volano di promozione associativa che amplifica l’importanza dell’impegno collettivo di tutte le Associazioni storiche provinciali che, in armonia con il Veneto Club, rendono possibile questa festa così significativa anno dopo anno: sono i gruppi dei Padovani, dei Trevisani, dei Veronesi, dei Vicentini, della Comunità Montana, delle Signore Ausiliarie e del Veneto Club appunto che compongono la spina dorsale della collettività regionale e ai quali va riconosciuta autentica gratitudine per il loro impegno, costanza e dedizione.    

Il pomeriggio, allietato dalla musica di sottofondo del Dj Steven Angelini, dalle performance del Coro nonché da un’ulteriore esibizione del Tenore presente, è trascorso in allegria soprattutto per i più piccoli grazie ad alcune attività per loro pensate come quella del “face painting” e del “jumping castle”.

Graditissima sorpresa finale, nel tardo pomeriggio è stato il collegamento telefonico effettuato con il Presidente del Consiglio Regionale del Veneto, Roberto Ciambetti, il quale ha voluto portare un messaggio di saluto e congratulazioni ai presenti sottolineando ancora una volta la vicinanza istituzionale della Regione e la considerazione che la stessa ha della realtà Comunitaria veneta di Melbourne e non solo. A Ciambetti, ben noto ai più per la sua sensibilità e passione verso il settore, va riconosciuto il suo intenso lavoro a sostegno e promozione delle Comunità Venete nel Mondo e per questo a lui giungano i nostri più sinceri ringraziamenti.

"VENETO IN GINOCCHIO" FUNDRAISING - OFFICIAL RESULTs  

The Veneto Club recently joined forces to support the fundraising campaign “VENETO IN GINOCCHIO” which was an initiative launched by the Veneto Region to help the people and the areas badly affected by extreme weather last October. Torrential rains and landslides have caused millions of dollars in damages.

The campaign, promoted by the Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria, has been endorsed by all local Associations that have been collecting funds during their events in November and December.

With the help and support of all our Veneto Club members and the local Veneto community, The Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria is pleased to announce that they have raised the sum of $2,500 AUD (€1,457.50) which has already been deposited into the dedicated trust held by the Veneto Regional Government.

Raccolta fondi "Veneto in ginocchio"

Anche il Veneto Club Melbourne è mobilitato per sostenere la raccolta fondi "VENETO IN GINOCCHIO" che andrà ad aiutare i territori veneti duramente colpiti dal maltempo dello scorso fine ottobre.

La campagna, promossa in loco dalla Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria, del quale il Club stesso fa parte, vede impegnate tutte le Associazioni storiche locali che stanno promuovendo la raccolta fondi all'interno delle rispettive attività sociali per i mesi di novembre e dicembre. 
Nei suoi prossimi eventi, quindi, il Veneto Club darà la possibilità di contribuire all'iniziativa con offerte libere.

Confidiamo nell'aiuto e nel sostegno di tutti nostri soci e della comunità veneta locale in generale per poter dare un segnale concreto ai nostri corregionali in questo momento di bisogno. 

La somma totale che verrà raccolta sarà poi depositata, con la supervisione dei Presidenti delle Associazioni, nel conto corrente specifico indicato dal governo della Regione del Veneto.

With the help and support of all our members and the local Veneto community, we can show the strong attachment we have to the Veneto Region and its people when they need it the most.

Under the supervision of all Associations Presidents, the sum that will be collected will be transferred on the special bank account opened by the Veneto Regional council.

Consulta e Meeting dei Veneti nel Mondo 2018 

A Padova, presso Palazzo Santo Stefano, dal 4 al 6 Ottobre si sono riuniti i Consultori per discutere i temi all’ordine del giorno del Piano Triennale 2019/2021 e del Piano Annuale 2019 come previsto dalla L.R. 9 gennaio 2003 n. 2 “Nuove norme a favore dei veneti nel mondo ed agevolazioni per il loro rientro”.

In parallelo anche i Delegati del Coordinamento Giovani Veneti e Giovani Oriundi Veneti residenti all’estero hanno elaborato le loro proposte rispetto all'associazionismo delle nuove generazioni dei discendenti veneti nel mondo.

Per le nostre Comunita' Venete locali dell'Australia erano presenti Fabio Sandona' (Consultore FAV Vic. e Vicepresidente Veneto Club Melbourne) con Davide Gottardello (Giovane FAV Vic. e Presidente dei Padovani del Mondo Melbourne) e Ivana Catherine Smaniotto (Consultore FAV Nsw.) con Luciana Tosolini (Giovane FAV Nsw.). 

Maggior conoscenza della realtà dell’emigrazione veneta nel mondo, legami più saldi tra le associazioni presenti in 18 Paesi anche attraverso la rete dei social, un database sulla storia dell’emigrazione veneta che aiuti la ricerca genealogica, l’insegnamento della storia dei veneti nel mondo nelle scuole venete ma anche scambi culturali, corsi di formazione, master universitari, borse di studio e premi di laurea per i giovani oriundi, sostegno al rientro dai Paesi oggi in crisi e aiuti per visite culturale e turismo sociale per gli over 65 che non hanno ancora visitato la loro terra d’origine: sono le proposte che la Consulta dei veneti nel mondo e il coordinamento dei giovani oriundi veneti, al termine degli ‘stati generali’ dell’emigrazione veneta nel mondo hanno consegnato alla Giunta e al Consiglio regionale del Veneto per il prossimo piano triennale delle politiche e delle iniziative per emigranti ed ex emigranti.

“Il documento che Consulta e coordinamento dei giovani ci hanno consegnato, in rappresentanza dell’’altro Veneto’ che vive all’estero – dichiara l’assessore ai flussi migratori della regione Veneto, Manuela Lanzarin, Presidente della Consulta dei veneti nel mondo – mette a fuoco i capisaldi delle relazioni tra il Veneto di oggi e i suoi discendenti nel mondo: associazionismo, circolarità dei cervelli ed emigrazione giovanile, attenzione per quei paesi, come il Venezuela, dove la grave crisi economica sta inducendo flussi di ritorno. Dal 2019 al 2021 la Regione metterà a disposizione 450 mila euro del proprio bilancio per finanziare queste iniziative, alle quali si aggiungeranno progetti di cooperazione internazionale sanitaria

per i paesi in crisi dell’America latina. In particolare, i rappresentanti dei 126 circoli e delle 13 federazioni e comitati dei veneti presenti nei diversi continenti sostengono e si impegnano a rafforzare anche con il proprio contributo l’intesa raggiunta con l’Ufficio scolastico regionale del Veneto per l’insegnamento della storia dell’emigrazione veneta nelle scuole di ogni ordine e grado”.

Una storia che non è più quella degli emigranti con la valigia di cartone, ma è diventata negli ultimi anni ‘circolarità di cervelli’, storia di eccellenze imprenditoriali e lavorative nel mondo, e ricerca da parte di quasi 10 mila giovani veneti ogni anno di opportunità e di nuovi sbocchi professionali all’estero. “Chiediamo attenzione per il valore aggiunto che l’emigrazione veneta continua ad esprimere nel mondo”, è l’appello del Vicepresidente della Consulta, Luciano Alban.

“Oggi non si emigra più per guerra o per fame, ma per sete di conoscenze e per trovare nuova occupazione. Ai giovani veneti che intendono andare all’estero il nostro associazionismo intende offrire una rete di contatti, opportunità ed esperienze, attraverso il portale comitatogiovaniveneti.org e la sua Pagina Facebook @comitatogiovani.venetiallestero" sintetizza Fabio Pizzighello, Coordinatore dei giovani veneti e dei giovani oriundi veneti all’estero.

Sostegni ai giovani e collegamenti tra atenei veneti, enti di formazione e il ricco e variegato mondo dell’emigrazione veneta sono una delle nuove dimensioni delle relazioni tra il Veneto e i suoi discendenti - ha sottolineato Aldo Rozzi Marin, Presidente dell’Associazione Veneti nel mondo, a nome delle 8 associazioni locali che danno rappresentanza agli ex emigranti di ritorno – che il Veneto e le comunità dei veneti nel mondo intendono valorizzare. 

Con oltre 3,2 milioni di emigrati registrati tra Otto e Novecento (prima regione d’Italia nelle classifiche degli espatri) e quasi 5 milioni di veneti e oriundi veneti residenti all’estero, il Veneto mantiene solidi legami istituzionali con i discendenti dell’”epopea” migratoria, anche attraverso la riunione periodica degli ‘stati generali’ degli emigrati e degli oriundi. “Una specificità della nostra regione”, ha fatto notare il consigliere regionale Luciano Sandonà. “Che testimonia il senso di appartenenza dei veneti nel mondo – gli ha fatto eco l’assessore Lanzarin – come dimostra il documento finale degli ‘stati generali’ dell’”altro Veneto”.

Di forte rilevanza Istituzionale e' stato infine l'incontro che i Delegati hanno avuto con parte della Giunta Regionale presso l'Aula consiliare di palazzo Ferro-Fini, sede del Consiglio regionale del Veneto dov'erano presenti il Presidente Roberto Ciambetti, il Presidente della Sesta Commissione Alberto Villanova, l'Assessore Giuseppe Pan e il Sindaco di Cittadella, Luca Pierobon. 

Ciambetti, con il suo messaggio ha cementato sempre piu' le relazioni tra la Regione e le nostre comunita' venete nel mondo dimostrandosi ancora una volta alquanto sensibile al settore: “Fuori dal Veneto esiste un altro Veneto, fatto di persone che si riconoscono nei nostri valori e che li hanno esportati, in primis la cultura del lavoro. Il legame con i nostri corregionali all’estero può produrre positive ricadute anche di tipo economico”.

La nostra Comunita’ Veneta locale del Victoria infine, forte sopratutto di una struttura unica nel suo genere come quella del Veneto Club Melbourne, si e’ riproposta nuovamente per accogliere quanto prima possibile i Rappresentanti Regionali del settore per rinvigorire i rapporti con il nostro Veneto e promuovere rinnovate sinergie e progettualita’.

President's Dinner

At the presence of the Italian Consul General Pierluigi Trombetta, Mayor of Manningham Andrew Conlon and Councilor Michelle Kleinert, the President’s Gala Dinner 2018 was the perfect opportunity to pay respect to the past figures who had the vision and worked hard in order to create a community hub as the Veneto Club is today.

In particular, four “pioneers” that were part of the first Veneto Club committee were recognized with a special certificate signed by the President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia and the Minister of the regional council Manuela Lanzarin.

Mario Bonis, Floriano Marchesin, Giovanni Scomparin and Angelo Silvestrini are those four people from that original committee that are still here with us today.

Despite difficulties of all sorts, they pursued what could have seemed an unachievable dream but was a need for hundreds of families, the need of a place to call home away from home.

Mario Bonis (originally from Arcade) was committee member and president for a total of 12 years and served as a volunteer for another 15 years.

Marchesin (originally from Trevigliano) was secretary for ten years.

Giovanni Scomparin, from Treviso, was committee member and vice president for about 5 years and he continued to be an active player within the Italian community.

Silvestrini (originally from Povegliano) was a committee member for eight years.

The certificates were presented by representative of the Federazione delle Associazioni Venete  – President  Andrea Bettio and Secretary Ketti Pezzin – Fabio Sandonà, Consultore, and Louis Crema. Within FAV, Louis Crema thanked Andrea Bettio and Luigi Bacchin, respectively former presidents of Trevisani nel mondo and Padovani nel mondo of Melbourne, for their tireless work and passion to the local Veneto Community.

Throughout the night, many other people were recognized for their work and support to the club: the Ladies Auxiliary – Josie Faggion, Dorina Di Marzo, Eufrasia Castriotta e Imelda Del Negro – who fundraised of 13,000 dollars for the club; Emilio Colla from the Bocce sub-committee who presented a cheque of 5000 dollars; Celio Stocco for his voluntary work of many years; Pat Saladino, former chairman of the FCBL; Tony Squillacioti, who recently retired from his position of Commercial Manager; Naomi Varrato who has left vacant her position of committee member.

A special mention went also to Frank Gazzola for being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.

La Grande Guerra

On Sunday 27th May, The Veneto Club hosted a special once only performance to commemorate one hundred years of La Grande Guerra.

The show is a creation of Donald Furlano from Torino (Italia) – a collection of original war songs that were composed depicting the struggles of the Italian soldiers during World War One which ultimately shaped our cultural heritage, and Veneto spirit. The battles of Isonzo, Asiago, Vittorio Veneto, Piave and Gorizia were all fought in the “back yard” of north eastern Italy – areas that the Veneto Club represents.

We had a great turnout with over 500 guests who attended the event including the Italian Consul General Pierluigi Trombetta, Comites President Francesco Pascalis and many other representatives of the broader Italian community.

The Men’s Choir, which was specifically created for this performance, consisted of 40 people (23 Veneto Club members), many of whom have never sang in a choir before. Directed by Maestro Canil and accompanied by Bensi Band, the choir performed poignant songs from WWI, while Federico Martin and Alberto Del Duca interpreted respectively the parts of the authorities and the soldiers who fought WWI.

In the basketball court original items from the battles theatres in the Veneto and Friuli Regions were displayed, thanks to the Alpini Museum of McLeod, alongside a photographic exhibition curated by Laura Mecca.

A big thank you and congratulations to the performers who made this special event a day to remember! Thank you also to all volunteers and guests who attended.

To commemorate this special event, the Veneto Club has created DVD’s of the La Grande Guerra performance and is offering them for sale at $15 each.

Female Friendly Facilities

The Veneto Club made an application to the Stronger Communities Programme for a grant to renovate two change rooms to accommodate the growing number of girls/women playing sport at the Veneto Club.

With the support of our local Federal MP – Kevin Andrews we were successful in obtaining a grant of $15,000.

The renovation started early April and was completed on 10 June. The attached photo shows Kevin Andrews inspecting the newly completed female friendly change rooms.

The Veneto Club thanks Kevin Andrews for supporting a project to better accommodate our female athletes.

The Veneto Club also thanks Louis Crema & Crema Constructions for the generous contribution to the project and contractor Problem Solving Plumbing who did a great job with the plumbing and fit out of the change rooms.
