Vicentini di Myrtleford
Association founded in 1982
The Vicentini first began to socialize informally in Myrtleford well before they became an official circolo (or association). There were quite a few families who had been drawn to the region by the prospect of work on tobacco farms and because they either had family or “paesani” in Myrtleford. Naturally, all missed their homeland greatly and one way to cope was to meet together over a glass of wine, a meal and to dance to Italian music. Many a good party was had in the tobacco sheds, then later at what is now Club Savoy.
Vicentini di Myrtelford was formally registered with the Ente Vicentini nel mondo di Vicenza in September 1982 listing its purpose as a social and recreational club for the benefit of its members. Over the years many dinner dances and festivities have been organized, as well as bus trips, castagnate, breakfasts and BBQs, all of which remain very popular with members and their guests. These activities are also a way of strengthening ties with groups from other parts of Italy.
As well as the social aspect, passing on the Vicentino culture has been very important, and for quite a few years younger members of the association have been meeting annually to make salami.
Myrtleford Vicentini were instrumental in establishing “La Fiera”, the biggest Italian festival of the region which brings thousands of visitors to the town annually. This is centred around a purpose built chess board in the piazza where the famous chess match of Marostica is reenacted every two years, complete with the castle but minus the live animals. There are lots of regional dishes such as polenta e spezzatino, and of course crostoli and fritole which are mass produced for the guests. The association was also involved in the setting up of the North East Multicultural Association which is active across five shires.
But first and foremost, the association exists for its members and to bridge the gap between Myrtleford and the homeland.

Associazione fondata nel 1982
I Vicentini di Myrtleford iniziarono a incontrarsi come gruppo informale ben prima della costituzione del circolo ufficiale. Furono parecchie le famiglie che si spinsero nella regione a nord-est del Victoria attirate dalla possibilità di lavorare nella coltivazione del tabacco e da familiari o “paesani” che si erano già stabiliti nella zona. Un modo per scacciare la forte nostalgia che avevano per la loro terra d'origine era incontrarsi regolarmente davanti a un bicchiere di vino e a un buon pasto e ascoltando musica da ballo. Innumerevoli le feste che si svolsero negli essiccatoi per il tabacco e, successivamente, in quello che è oggi il Club Savoy.
I Vicentini di Myrtelford divennero ufficialmente parte dell'Ente Vicentini nel mondo con sede a Vicenza nel settembre 1982 registrandosi come circolo sociale e ricreativo. Nel corso degli anni sono stati organizzati balli, gite in pullman, castagnate, colazioni e barbecue, che rimangono ancora oggi appuntamenti popolari tra i soci e i loro ospiti. Queste attività sono anche un modo per rafforzare i legami con gli altri gruppi italiani della zona.
Oltre a questo aspetto ricreativo, è sempre stato importante tramandare le tradizioni e le usanze vicentine. Da tempo ormai, i più giovani si danno appuntamento annualmente per preparare salami fatti in casa.
I Vicentini di Myrtleford hanno avuto un ruolo fondamentale nella creazione de “La Fiera”, la manifestazione italiana più importante della regione, frequentata da migliaia di visitatori. Il centro nevralgico del festival è la piazza dove ogni due anni si disputa una rievocazione della partita di scacchi di Marostica, senza animali ma con una riproduzione del castello e una scacchiera fatta appositamente per la rassegna. Durante “La Fiera” vengono preparate specialità gastronomiche regionali come lo spezzatino con polenta, crostoli e frittelle.
I Vicentini di Myrtleford hanno anche preso parte alla fondazione della North East Multicultural Association, attiva in cinque contee.
L'obiettivo principale e prioritario dell'associazione è il sostegno agli associati e la possibilità di creare e mantenere un ponte tra Myrtleford e il territorio d'origine.
